No referral is required to book an appointment at State of Mind Practice. You are welcome to self-refer at any time. If you wish to claim Medicare rebates, you will need a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP. Private health insurance rebates may also be available depending on your level of cover.
We support a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, stress, low mood and depression, emotional regulation difficulties, relationship challenges, parenting stress, chronic health concerns, ADHD diagnosis and coaching, grief and loss, and adjustment to major life changes or diagnoses. If you are unsure whether therapy is appropriate for your situation, you are welcome to get in touch to discuss your needs.
Your first session is a calm, supportive introduction. We explore what has brought you to therapy, your current concerns, relevant background information, and what you would like to work toward. There is no pressure to share more than you feel ready to. The first session is about understanding your needs and ensuring the therapeutic approach feels right for you.
Standard sessions are typically 50 minutes. In some cases, longer sessions may be recommended and discussed in advance.
The number of sessions varies depending on your goals, the nature of your concerns, and whether you are seeking short-term or longer-term support. This is reviewed collaboratively throughout therapy.
Yes. We provide age-appropriate psychological support for children and adolescents. Where appropriate, parents or caregivers are involved to support progress outside of sessions and ensure consistency across environments.
Yes. Confidentiality is a fundamental part of psychological practice. Information shared in sessions is kept confidential within legal and ethical limits. These limits include situations involving risk of serious harm to yourself or others, child protection concerns, or legal requirements. These limits are explained clearly as part of informed consent.
Yes. Telehealth sessions are available via secure platforms and follow the same ethical and confidentiality standards as in-person sessions. Telehealth can be a flexible option for clients who prefer online support or are unable to attend in person.
